Safe Place in an emergency shelter for youth ages 12-20. Youth can access essential services while longer-term housing is found. Staff assists youth with meeting basic needs, educational support and helping to find stability. The program focuses on permanency and strives to rebuild and secure stable housing after their stay at Safe Place.

What You'll Do as a Relief Youth Care Counselor at Safe Place:
-Engages homeless and runaway youth in working towards successful transitions

-Follows the schedule and structure of the Safe Place programs in Hillsboro and provide oversight of the facilities to maintain all safety, security, and licensing standards.

-Supervises and monitors youth whereabouts and safety at all times, provide youth supervision in the facility and in the community.

-Assures that youth adhere to specific standards of conduct and appropriate youth interactions. Along with that Instructs youth regarding desirable health, personal habits, and housekeeping duties.

-Promotes a culture of responsivity in which youth are empowered to be active participants in the program (e.g., seeking opportunities for individual or group coaching and skill building, maintaining a daily activity schedule to help youth overall development).

-Interacts with youth and families in a way that incorporates trauma-informed care, harm reduction, awareness of the culture of poverty, permanency goals, and other recognized best practices for runaway and homeless youth programs.

Job Requirements:
-Associate's degree or 2 years of experience in a social service, mental health, or care giving setting that may have resulted from work, internships, or volunteering OR related experience where skills necessary to perform the job is demonstrated OR any combination of education and experience equivalent to two years.

-Must possess a valid driver's license from state of residence (Oregon or Washington), personal automobile liability insurance, reliable personal transportation, and pass a DMV driving record check.

-Must successfully pass pre-employment reference checks, criminal background check, including, if applicable, fingerprinting.
