ChildNet Youth and Family Services is currently seeking a Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS) Coach for our Behavioral Health Services program located in Palm Desert, CA.

ChildNet Behavioral Health Services (BHS) offers a variety of mental health services to clients, including Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS). The TBS Coach will be assigned to serve high-risk youth and work within the community, coordinating services needed to meet the needs of clients and their families. The primary responsibility of the TBS Coach is to provide in-home behavior management training to caregivers of identified clients, acting as part of a coordinated treatment team. The nature of our business requires Inland Empire BHS employees to be out in the community (e.g., Eastern Inland Empire Desert Region, including areas within the Coachella Valley and Palo Verde Valley). Work hours may start and end at various intervals throughout the day. The position requirements include a work schedule not consistent with eight (8) straight scheduled hours of working time. If a business-related call is received between work functions or between intervals of working time, it is expected that an attempt will be made to return the call within 30 minutes.

The TBS Coach responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Coordinate and provide services to children and adolescents under the supervision of the IE Clinical Administrator, or their designee. This will frequently involve one-to-one interaction with a specific client for extended periods.
  • Provide in-home behavior management training to caregivers, as needed.
  • Actively participate in the Child and Family Team (CFT) to develop a treatment plan for each client.
  • Attend and participate in CFT, ICC, IEP and other client-related meetings as part of the treatment implementation team.
  • Work with the mental health practitioner of clients to ensure participation in the Coordinated Service Plan and/or Needs and Service Plan.
  • Prepare verbal reports regarding client’s participation and progress in the program; make written documentation of the same in the electronic record.
  • Maintain contact notes and DMH billing documentation for each individual client.
  • Attend DPSS/DMH meetings, provider meetings, and other community events as a representative of the agency.
  • Complete required training as outlined in the TBS contract.
  • Identify, report, and respond to extreme behavior, such as verbal aggression, biting, hitting, kicking, throwing items (e.g., food, objects, and/or bodily fluids), self-inflicted injuries, property damage, substance abuse, etc., in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations and ChildNet policies and procedures.
  • Attend mandatory in-service and facility/department meetings as required.
  • Maintain availability for possible crisis intervention 24 hours a day/7 days a week.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

The Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS) Coach shall possess:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in a social science-related field (e.g., Social Work or Social Welfare, Marriage & Family Therapy, Child Psychology, Child Development, Counseling Psychology or Social Psychology, etc.), and at least six (6) month of experience working with emotionally disturbed children or at-risk youth.
  2. Ability to cooperatively collaborate with colleagues in the organization and be a team player.
  3. Must have a high level of interpersonal skills with demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy.
  4. Bilingual proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding Spanish is preferred, but not required.

All employees must pass an employment TB, drug screen, physical exam and Dept. of Justice/FBI/Child Abuse Index Search clearance. Underwriting requirements of this agency including keeping a valid CA Drivers License, valid auto insurance on file, and maintaining a good driving record while employed.
