This position will assist in administration and operations of the Office of Complete Communities and its initiatives. The primary role of the selected candidate will be to support the Director and advises on decisions for the implementation, funding, and management of Complete Communities projects.

Roles and responsibilities include the following:

  • Coordinate project management and aid the implementation of Complete Communities projects under the direction of the Director and in coordination with partners.
  • Participate in the development and administration of work plans and budgets; forecast needs, such as funding, staffing, etc.
  • Research and develop materials in an organized and time-sensitive manner; written products may include PowerPoint presentations, reports, memoranda, and correspondence
  • Manage project management and funding database; create reports as needed
  • Identify operational needs and provide recommendations for improving day-to-day operations
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with partners and supporters and act as a liaison with City department staff, community partners, and donors
  • Help to ensure ongoing programmatic excellence and program evaluation; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve targeted goals
  • In the absence of the Director, represent the Office of Complete Communities to city departments, community, and private sector stakeholders
    This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort in a normal office environment. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Requires a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field.

    Sevenyears of progressively more complex/responsible administrative experience are required, with at least three years in a supervisory capacity.
    Professional experience related to the type of work being performed may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

    Valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).


    **Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
    Preference will also be given to individuals with:
    Computer expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Experience with database management/project management software
  • Strong written, organizational, problem-solving and verbal communication skills
  • Research, writing, analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to collect, organize, synthesize, and utilize data
  • Ability to understand the big picture and be detail-oriented, to multi-task and respond quickly to requests for information, to work collaboratively and build consensus
  • Respectful and professional demeanor in diverse contexts
  • Experience working with government and/or the targeted communities preferred
  • Donor fundraising experience valued

    Department may administer skills assessment test

    This position isfunded by a grant. Grant positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employee may be laid off or transferred.

    Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification. The salary range is pay grade: 30
