The Organizations mission: The Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) finds adoptive homes for children and teens waiting in foster care. A private non-profit agency founded in 1957, MARE provides a unique facilitating role within the Massachusetts adoption community. MARE collaborates with the Massachusetts Department of Children & Families (DCF) and contracted adoption agencies to connect potential adoptive parents with youth waiting for adoption.
Job Description: The Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE), a private non-profit organization that recruits adoptive parents for children in foster care is seeking a full time Director of Development. This person is responsible for leading an effective fundraising plan for the agency, based on Individual Giving, Fundraising Events, Foundation/Corporate grants, and Donor Relations. Specific responsibilities include:
Design, implement and evaluate a yearly fundraising plan that includes donor stewardship and major gift solicitation, special events, and grants management:
Develop the annual appeal and specific donor solicitation including major donor cultivation and acquisition.This includes cultivating and maintaining contact with such prospects and donors before and after gifts are committed.
Research and write major gift requests and grant proposals to individuals, organizations, corporations and foundations for funding.
Special Events Plan and manage 1-2 fundraising special events per year including the Knights of Pythias Golf Tournament and the Jordans Furniture Walk/Run for Adoption.Work with the Board of Directors Fundraising Committee to develop new events.
Outline the theme and write the content for the Annual Report and work with the Communications team on production
Manage the design and implementation of procedures by which gifts to MARE are recorded and acknowledged, donors are recognized, and accurate financial records and files are maintained.This includes database management.
This person supervises the administrative assistant and any yearly development interns, and will act as one of the key community relations persons for the organization, helping to raise awareness and funding for the agency.
a minimum of a bachelor's degree and have more than five years of experience in fundraising
have proven success in identifying, cultivating and soliciting major gift donors and community support along with a demonstrated track record of Fundraising Event management
experience and evident skill in grant writing
evident skill in writing and editing, in public speaking, and in interpersonal communications
the ability and willingness both to work as part of a team and to operate autonomously
knowledge of information systems to support fund-raising activities is essential
excellent organizational, management and research skills
must have an ability to understand and a willingness to articulate the mission of MARE
Knowledge of Salesforce donor management system is a plus
A valid drivers license, the use of a car, and ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours
