Secondary Resource Specialist Seeking a high qualified Secondary Resource Specialist who will work individually and collectively with Open Choice districts, high schools, and families of children enrolled in the Hartford Region Open Choice Program to support the development of meaningful partnerships and the success of Hartford resident high school students enrolled in suburban school districts.
Primary Responsibilities include:
? Conduct new family and student orientations and support new students in transitioning into grades 9 - 12.
? Coordinate transitional programming support for life after high school.
? Act as a liaison between families and the suburban school district and school.
? Encourage parents to establish effective working relationships with the receiving school.
? In conjunction with the suburban school district, facilitate groups to bring urban and suburban secondary students together.
? Act in the capacity of mediator between families and school districts, as necessary.
? In conjunction with the suburban school district, make home visits, as necessary.
? Attend PPT, 504 and expulsion meetings, as necessary.
? Identify community based resources in Hartford for families and schools.
? Participate in Open Choice recruitment and other marketing efforts.
? Responsible for the development and facilitation of the annual High School Youth Empowerment Summit.
? SDE certification required in school social worker (071) or school counselor (068)
? Three - five years' experience working with an urban high school population.
? Knowledge of the Open Choice program and Sheff Settlement.
? Experience in an urban school with students of various racial, ethnic and socioeconomic background, preferred.
? Bilingual Spanish, preferred.
