Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Executive Director, the Director of Marketing & Special Events responsibilities will be to plan, coordinate, implement and support organizational strategies for special events, marketing, PR and fundraising.
30% Marketing
1. Maintain a consistent message for the Club.
2. Increase visibility of Club development activities
3. Work with the Executive Director and leadership team to prepare all written communication.
4. Create/maintain a resource development plan and marketing calendar to most efficiently promote the Boys & Girls Club on a year-round basis.
5. Maintain relationships with the graphic designer, website manager and local printers.
6. Produce press releases for upcoming Club events to be submitted to local entities.
7. Write weekly articles, press releases, media alerts, newsletter articles, update website & social media, etc. to promote public awareness of the Club in the community.
8. Develop collaborative partnerships with Club staff, volunteers, members, supporters, other Clubs, media contacts, consultants and vendors, and other not-for-profit organizations to establish professional links within the community, updates community calendars and weekly e-blasts.
9. Build and maintain donor e-mail list for communication
10. Creation of a monthly e-newsletter to be made available to all Club donors, supporters, members and families that will promote the happenings of the Club.
30% Special Events
1. Organize and lead all special events (i.e. A Toast to Great Futures Wine & Beer Tasting) that meet or exceed the budgeted goal.
2. Plan, facilitate, and evaluate all Boys & Girls Club related special events and fundraisers, assuring that fundraiser goals are in line with projected budget amounts.
3. Utilize creativity and organization in development and implementation of Club and Club supported events.
4. Participate and manage committees to serve as liaison for Club Signature Events
4.1. Including but not limited to: A Toast to Great Futures Event, Golf Outing, BGC Big Board, Family Nights, Culver's & Taco John's Days, Father/Daughter Dance
5. Produce annual Donor Recognition event in conjunction with Board of Directors.
6. Expand and develop the current fundraising reach of the Club to attract and retain new donors for Club programs, special events and fundraisers.
7. Develop strategic, collaborative partnership with local vendors to provide financial or in-kind support to Club programs and/or special events.
15% Donor Relations
1. Serve as a liaison for the club with potential donors/supporters by creating strategic alliances.
2. Work in partnership with the Executive Director to keep donor management and tracking software up to date and ensure communication with donors is constant and effective. Manage recordkeeping for all donor relations
3. Produce weekly, formal acknowledgements of all gifts and donations received through management of the Donor Management System, as well as production of reports of giving as requested by the CPO.
4. Train Club Staff, Executives and Board Members in Club marketing and branding standards as well as information/record management.
10% Campaign Coordination
1. Coordinate and assist Executive Director with the development activities of a comprehensive Development plan (Annual Campaign) that includes a communication component with benchmarks.
2. Assist in writing annual appeal letters to solicit gifts from the community
10% Board Relations
1. Serve on the Development Committee; as requested
2. Communicate monthly development notes to the Executive Director prior to Board Meeting
3. Attend Board Meetings as requested
5% Additional Duties
1. Volunteer and Attend Club events as assigned
2. All other duties as requested
3. Serve as a key member of the senior management team.
Required Qualifications:
Associate degree in related field of study
Minimum of three years' work experience in fundraising field, sales, marketing, special events or related field
Considerable knowledge of special events and sources of funding for non-profit agencies and organizations
Ability to organize and coordinate marketing and special events
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Club staff, Board members, volunteers, community groups, and other related agencies
Knowledge of accessing and managing donor database.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, media, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Strong oral and written communication skills
Self-starter, to work with minimal supervision
Demonstrated ability to use independent judgment, tact, and discretion
Demonstrated ability to negotiate effectively under multiple deadline pressure
Ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of partners
Knowledge of PC and/or Mac computers and software including Adobe and MS Office; ability to learn new programs as needed
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
5+ years of work experience in non-profit fundraising, special events, sales, marketing or related field
Knowledge of the mission, objectives, policies, programs and practices of non-profit youth development organizations.
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $30,000.00 to $40,000.00 /year
