Exciting opportunity to work directly with adults or children on inpatient psychiatric units at Salem Hospital (adults) or Union Hospital campuses (child). These positions involve establishing therapeutic relationship with patients while maintaining professional boundaries , participation in patient care rounds, managing the milieu and facilitating psycho education and therapeutic group activities. The successful candidate will identify patient behaviors that contribute to the development of a crisis, and utilize nonverbal and verbal techniques to de-escalate crisis situations, as these units are striving to be a restraint free environment to promote the recovery of patients. Positions require some scheduling flexibility, including every other weekend and rotating holidays.

North Shore Medical Center Psychiatry service includes a comprehensive array of psychiatric services including 66 inpatient beds over two campuses, partial hospital program and three very busy outpatient clinics. Over the next 2-3 years, inpatient psychiatry will be expanding to 90 inpatient beds all on the Salem campus. NSMC is a member of the Partners Health Care Network that includes MGH, Brigham, McLean, Newton Wellesley Hospital and other Partners institutions.

Knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, and basic nursing functions. Requires successful completion of CPI Training as the unit is restraint free. Requires intense attention to ensure a safe environment. Ability to communicate with patients of diverse age, population, and multitude of cultural/ethnic backgrounds.

1 yr experience in an acute care, hospital setting or related field.

A minimum of a High School education or equivalent

Rotating weekend/holiday commitment.

Preferred:

Current CPR certification

Experience on an inpatient mental health unit

Completion of an Associates or Bachelors degree program in Behavioral Health or Human Services, or degree eligible.
