Responsibilities

Provo Canyon School is a residential mental health treatment center that serves youth that are struggling with emotional, behavioral and academic challenges. We serve both boys and girls ages 8 through 18 and have a gender-specific program for boys as well as for girls at two distinct and separate locations. For more than 40 years, we have continued to enhance, expand and improve services and resources for families and students. As a Student Life Mentor you will supervise students in their daily activities and teach daily coping skills to students to help manage their emotions and behaviors in more healthy and positive ways. You will also provide a positive role model for patients in personal dress, grooming, attitude, and behavior. Must be 21 years of age to work with youth. Shifts vary, nights and weekends, decided upon during interview process. Hours: Shifts worked during the hours of Friday 3pm-11pm, Saturday 9am-11pm and/or Sunday 9am-11pm.

Pay:

$15 must work both Sat AM and Sun AM shifts (plus a $2.00 weekend shift differential = $17/hr.)

$14 can choose Sat or Sun AM + at least one weekend swing shift (plus a $2.00 weekend shift differential = $16/hr.)

$13 can choose any three shifts (two have to be weekend shifts). (plus a $2.00 shift differential for the weekend shifts = $15/hr.)

Qualifications

High school diploma, preferred BS degree; educational background in social work, psychology, or related fields helpful; acceptable oral and written communication skills; legible handwriting; ability to maintain information as highly confidential; telephone etiquette and customer service skills by phone and face-to-face; familiarity with medical and psychological terminology preferred; skills in dealing courteously with the public and other staff within the school; basic knowledge of human behavior or principles of psychology useful; skills in prioritizing and in managing time; problem-solving skills; use of appropriate social skills, including demonstration and respect for staff and patients; empathy toward patients. Must work weekends. Must be 21 years or older. Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
