POSITION SUMMARY: The is the advocate for the generations of the church and will oversee the structures and atmosphere of the church to ensure that the family of God is working together to make disciples of the next generation. Their primary role will be to promote an environment through discipleship and cultural understanding that will make Sherwood Community Friends Church (SCFC) a healthy and safe place for young families and children/youth to get the support they need to grow in all aspects of Christian faith. (The Family Life Pastor will be an advocate for the young families, particularly children, youth and early adults, because these are the people who are least knowledgeable and least experienced in the Christian life. They will also be an advocate for the parents because they are in the greatest position to influence the young.)


  • A personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and strong desire to serve within the church.
  • Must display a dynamic Orthodox Christian faith who is scripturally grounded.

  • Ability to protect the reputation and integrity of others through strict confidentiality.
  • Wisdom to refrain from indiscriminately sharing information is critical.
  • Willingness to learn new skills.
  • Work as a team player and overall dependability and accessibility are very important.

  • Oversee relational, engaging ministries to children and youth.
  • Work with the Christian Education Committee to ensure that the curriculum used at each level of spiritual development connects to the next.
  • Ensure that ministry leaders connect regularly to the households so parents will experience a clear partnership in the discipleship of their children.
  • Help parents navigate the challenges the face when what they learn in the world differs from what they learn at home or in church.
  • Develop and expound a vision that leads to a focus on teaching Bible knowledge and demonstrating living Christian faith through the relational interaction between the pastor, other leaders and the young.
  • Encourage intergenerational gatherings to help the young and all generations to recognize how God is working across all age groups.
  • Work with the senior pastor to ensure that opportunities exist for all generations to worship, learn, and serve together.

  • Education: Minimum of 4-yr. college degree preferred.
  • Life Experience: 3-yrs. experience in a permanent ministry role (preferred).
  • Security: Provide evidence of a passed background check and completion of Ministry Safe™ Training.
  • Spiritual Agreement: Recognizes and supports the teachings and beliefs of Sherwood Community Friend Church and the Northwest Yearly Meeting of Friends including signed “Statement of Faith” upon hire.

    The following computer/technology competency is desired:

  • Microsoft Office
  • ServantKeeper™ (our CRM tool)
  • Email marketing tools (e.g. MailChimp, Constant Contact, etc.)

  • 40 hours per week
  • Office hours will be determined upon hire.

  • $50,000 - $60,000/year. Salary is will be negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
  • Mileage Reimbursement (at Current IRS recommended rate) to be made whenever personal vehicle is used to accomplish any church-related task. Will submit monthly mileage reimbursement to Pastor for approval.
  • All church-related conferences and training programs approved by the church will be paid by the church.
  • Annual evaluation will be completed in November (to accommodate for any budgetary changes in compensation package).
  • In case of sudden illness, contact the Pastor or Clerk of Elders as soon as possible so a replacement can be obtained.
