This position enhances opportunities for Native American youth to achieve educational excellence in order to improve academic achievement levels of Native American students in South Dakota. Duties include: acts as liaison between the department and tribal education officials, BIE, K-12 educators, USDOE Office of Indian Education; acts as a point of contact for tribal education officials and staff in schools that educate Native American students; assesses needs and areas of concern pertaining to K-12 Native American education; consults with department officials and K-12 practitioners about current education trends; develops and implements policies and procedures for implementation of promising practices, school improvement strategies, and other activities to ensure delivery of quality and culturally competent services to the state's schools; provides technical assistance to tribal education officials, state policy makers, and K-12 educators relative to policies and procedures, federal and state education laws and regulations, local policy development, professional development, and curriculum and instruction matters. In-state and out-of-state travel is required. Location and telecommute options are negotiable.
This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A bachelor's degree or higher in a related education field and five+ years of successful employment in an educational environment is preferred.
