The Caf Assistant will assist in the oversight and management of the Hawks Nest Caf. Duties include supervising youth, teaching customer service skills, food preparation and serving. The Caf Assistant shall attend training, Department Meetings and Supervision on a consistent basis. The position requires afternoon to evening hours, weekends and some holiday hours.

  • Adheres to all Agency and departmental Safety Procedures including reporting any unsafe practices, equipment and environment, and takes an active role in correcting the unsafe practice, equipment or environment through proper notification.
  • Provides supervision, direction and support to all youth.
  • Carries self in a professional manner that role models the highest level of customer service.
  • Provides training in customer and basic food service skills.
  • Manages the customer service area of the Hawks Nest Caf, including cash register, servers and dining area.
  • Manages all cash and resident charges. This includes the closing out the register to a zero balance on a daily basis.
  • Assures Caf account is managed with the Accounting Department consistently and accurately.
  • Demonstrates ability to engage effectively with teenagers of various backgrounds and redirects negative behaviors appropriately.
  • Participates in special events and programming, as scheduled.
  • Assist Culinary Arts Instructor in food prep, cooking, cleaning and regular full cleaning of the kitchen once a month.
  • Assure all equipment is clean, functioning appropriately and carry out follow up until resolved.
  • Follow all health code standards; assure the facility is up to and in compliance, as per DOH.
  • Assure Caf area, dining tables and patio is clean and orderly condition upon the conclusion of each shift
  • Assist in the screening, discipline and termination of Caf workers, as assigned.
  • Manages time responsibly, is on time and carries out documentation of time as per agency guidelines.
  • Enters information into LEWIS, as assigned.
  • Coordinates with the CA Instructor scheduling of interviews, work schedules, off campus trips, etc.
  • Consistently overs job responsibilities during scheduled hours, that include weekends and some holiday hours.
  • Attends training, Department Meetings and Supervision as scheduled.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
  • High School Diploma/GED, required
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Minimum, 1 year of prior experience as a cook, waitress/waiter, line experience, or food related experience, required
  • Servsafe Certification or equivalent, preferred
  • Servsafe Instructor, preferred
  • NYS Drivers License, preferred
  • Proficiency in WORD AND EXCEL
