Position Overview:The primary task of the Stepping Stones Independent Living Specialist is to assist each client in obtaining the skills and the resources necessary to begin functioning without the assistance of the foster care system. The Stepping Stones Independent Living Specialist is the person responsible for coordinating and monitoring services for youth and is the liaison to community resources as they relate to independent living skills development such as (goal setting abilities, community services referrals, and follow-up in regards to work readiness training/job placement, education/vocational placement, housing,). This position also monitors the HUD housing component, in partnership with Westhab, and is on call 24 hours a day/7 days a week in regards to the HUD component youth. In addition to the HUD component, the Stepping Stones Independent Living Specialist works in conjunction with the rest of the STEP Aftercare Team in engaging all IL youth towards becoming more self-sufficient and in the ongoing development of each clients M.A.P. and other relevant services goals. As warranted, this position may take on traditional aftercare cases in conjunction with IL related casework services. This position will also be responsible for the development and ongoing facilitation of the internal Stepping Stones IL curriculum; in collaboration with the program management.

Position Overview:

The Stepping Stones Independent Living Specialist is available during work hours and is responsible for assisting all STEP youth towards becoming more self-sufficient as well as for the ongoing development of each clients M.A.P. and coordination of enhanced services. The caseload per worker averages between 15-17 youth who all require assistance.

Position Qualifications:
  • A bachelors degree in social service or a related field and three years experience working with at risk youth is required OR s masters degree in social service or a related field. Some form of teaching or curriculum development experience is highly desirable.
  • Group work experience is required.
  • Must possess exceptional time management and detail-orientation skills.
  • Must possess a valid state drivers license.
  • Must own vehicle and be able to use the same vehicle for work related functions. (@ CVs reimbursement rate)
  • Must be willing to maintain 24/7 call coverage for any emergencies related to youth in the HUD IL component.
