Under the supervision of our Community Outreach Specialist you will effectively plan, organize, and implement recreational activities for youth at multi-family housing communities in Cary.  Work schedule will vary depending upon assignment; and may include evenings and weekends, but will not exceed 20 hours per week.
Typical Tasks

Drive a 6-passenger SUV to program sites;

Plan, instruct, implement, and participate in recreation, arts and athletic programs for Mobile Recreation Programs;

Routine clerical and administrative duties to include but not limited to data processing and management;

Extensive email, telephone and face-to-face contact with the general public, participants and the Police Department;

Set up and take down of recreational equipment and occasional janitorial tasks;

Design, produce, and/or distribute marketing materials;

Purchase and maintain program equipment and supplies;

Assist with special events and other outreach opportunities as needed;

Other tasks as assigned by Community Outreach Specialist.

Performs other job-related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to acquire knowledge of Town of Cary policies, procedures, and services of the department; knowledge of principles and techniques instruction and leadership of recreation activities, program content of youth programs, and supervisory techniques; candidates must be able to lift moderately heavy items, such as boxes of supplies or canopies; organization and time-management skills: ability to work independently, budget, prioritize assignments, and complete tasks in an accurate and timely manner; skill in the operation of common office equipment, especially computers and related software; excellent customer service and communication skills with the public and with other staff; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; understanding of standard office practices and procedures, including ability to maintain filing systems.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications

REQUIRES

Must be at least 18 years old;

One year minimum experience working or volunteering with youth in a daycare, sports league, afterschool program, or similar environment.

Requires CPR/First Aid certification, or the ability to become certified upon hire with provided training. 

Requires a valid driver's license with acceptable driving history.

Requires drug and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.

PREFERS

General knowledge of, and ability to teach art, sports, and other recreational programs to youth;

Experience leading youth sports, recreation, and/or arts programs preferred;

Some experience teaching youth in a classroom or other group setting;

Experience working with special needs or at-risk youth;

Spanish language fluency.
