ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Exercises full compliance with the Agency’s Code of Conduct, all Agency Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality and security for all client and staff related materials and/or records.
  • Provide supervision to youth including daily activities, guiding the daily planning schedule, conducting property inspections, documenting interactions of cottage group or youth on daily basis to ensure effective communication to the treatment team.
  • Provide a therapeutic milieu environment for youth; maintaining a positive, safe and healthy environment to meet the physical and emotional needs of youth. Ensure the daily care and cleanliness of the cottage. 
  • Assist youth with learning basic skills in daily living such as meal preparation, clothing care, household, and school-related responsibilities.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to further the emotional, behavioral and educational development of youth. Implement treatment protocol established in youth’s treatment plans and individual crisis management plans.
  • Accepts direction and work assignment from the Youth Care Professional II to include work with any group of residents assigned.
  • Performs job requirements with regular supervision, and is actively learning new areas of expertise in order to fulfill a wider ranging set of responsibilities.
  • Provide support to youth in crisis using Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) techniques. 
  • Acts as a positive and consistent role model and demonstrates Sanctuary Values/Commitments through interaction with youth and fellow staff.
  • Demonstrates, promotes and practices cultural sensitivity toward clients and staff with respect and understanding achieved through training and agency cultural activities.
  • Builds positive caring relationships with youth based on respect, trust and good communication

  • Actively supports a culture of teamwork and non-violence.
  • Attends new hire trainings, teamwork sessions, treatment team meetings and other workshops as required by Agency for continued growth and development.
  • Understands and maintains youth to staff ratio at all times including remaining on shift until relief staff arrive and a shift debrief is completed.
  • Adheres to established policies and procedures and makes suggestions for improvement as needed.
  • Exhibits punctuality to work, attendance, meetings, trainings and other assigned duties.
  • Demonstrates, promotes, and practices cultural competency towards clients, families and staff with respect and understanding achieved through training and Agency cultural activities.
  • Other responsibilities as designated by Residential Program Supervisor.
  • POSITION SPECIFICS:
  • High School Diploma or GED and 5-7 years of related youth care experience OR
  • Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services field, and 3-5 years of youth care experience.
  • First Aid, CPR & AED Certification preferred (Agency will provide). 
  • Candidates must have a valid NYS driver’s license and must meet agency driving requirements.
  • Skills:
  • Knowledge of childcare practices, developmental issues, and group processes and practices, which are important to this position.
  • Necessary stamina and temperament to work with youth (ages 16 and older) with significant trauma histories.
  • Demonstrates, promotes and practices cultural sensitivity toward clients and staff with respect and understanding achieved through training and agency cultural activities.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Must be able to work in fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to work varied shifts/weekends
  • Physical Demands:The following lists physical demands an employee will perform on a regular basis: standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling and climbing; Must be able to perform a variety of household tasks, climb stairs, move throughout the cottage or group home, work cooperatively in a team environment and quickly respond to emergencies. This position requires successful completion of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training, which includes a written test and demonstration of the competency to perform physical restraints, as specified by the program and regulatory body. Additionally, staff must successfully complete all required TCI refreshers in order to maintain continued employment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training: the ability to drop repeatedly to knees, twist and turn, exert oneself physically at an intense level, and support another adult’s weight. .
