Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) seeks a Part-Time Great Expectations Program Assistant to provide comprehensive mentor/volunteer coordination and program event planning for students enrolled in the Great Expectations program.

The Great Expectations Program Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Great Expectations Advisor as part of a state-wide Virginia Community College initiative responsible for creating a supportive climate for foster youth by connecting them with needed resources on campus and in the community to promote student success, retention and college completion while also assisting these foster youth in transitioning successfully into independent, self-sufficient lives.

The Great Expectations Program Assistant will work 25 29 hours per week, with flexible hours. Working hours will coordinate with the timing of Great Expectations program office hours, events and activities for program participants, and/or availability of program volunteers.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Recruit, Train and Supervise Volunteers to serve in varying roles (e.g., mentors, tutors, financial advisors, life skills/job coaching, etc.)
  • Plan Program Events/Activities for program participants and volunteers.
  • Coordinate Financial Literacy Program for program participants.
  • Assist with the coordination of Great Expectations program Marketing and Social Media
  • Assist with academic advising and resource connection for program participants
  • Act as a liaison between program participants, volunteers and Great Expectations Advisor.
  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience supporting, advising, and/or interacting with foster youth or other at-risk youth populations.
  • Experience with direct recruitment, training, coordination and/or supervising individual volunteers and program event planning
  • Experience using technology to interact directly with students and/or other audiences, including but not limited to text messaging services, social media, or email marketing
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, and Power Point)
  • Ability to meet or exceed deadlines set for assignments and projects
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality while working independently and using professional judgement in providing superior customer services to volunteers and program participants.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven track record in enhancing efficiencies and effectively building and maintaining a volunteer program.
  • Working knowledge of Trauma Informed Care Strategies.
  • At least 2 years of prior experience mentoring and/or providing life skills coaching to foster youth.
