About the Position

WWU’s Youth Programs through Outreach and Continuing Education maintains a vacancy pool of qualified persons interested in temporary part-time positions teaching a specialty topic to youth. Positions are primarily needed for summer programs, but on occasion may also be needed throughout the academic year. In anticipation of possible openings, applications are accepted continuously, however, it is recommended that applications for summer positions be submitted by May 1st of that year. Summer programming includes weekly half-day or full-day periods (Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.). Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop course syllabus and deliver daily lessons plans, schedules and budget estimates as requested
  • Submit syllabus for new course approval process (credit bearing courses)
  • Collaborate on the development and dissemination of program materials
  • Deliver instruction according to contract dates and times 
  • Participate in opening/closing events associated with the specific program
  • Required Qualifications
  • For summer programs, ability to teach 20 hours per weekly session
  • Demonstrated expertise in the specific content area of the proposed offering
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse youth program participants and staff
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned teaching certification
  • Previous successful teaching experience
  • Earned or currently enrolled in TESOL certification or ELL endorsement or similar
  • Salary
