POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION The Tot Activities Instructor position is responsible for teaching children (2 to 6 years old) in sports, tumbling and/or movement-based related classes, along with educational based toddler programs. This position assists the lead instructor and/or may lead the classes and will share duties with other early childhood instructors as needed. Classes are recreational-based and may be educational and/or sport/activity-related. Recreation instructor staff have the primary responsibility of ensuring the safety of program participants. This position is classified as safety-sensitive due to the nature of the work. Employees in this position may be subject to random drug testing and/or heightened supervision per the personnel policies and rules.Job hours will beTuesday and Thursday, 8:45 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.;and substituting as needed.The full salary range for this position is stated above. Physical Requirements This position requires a moderate degree of physical stamina and strength, including the ability to:Frequently stand, sit and walk through a multi-level facility Occasionally squat, bend, kneel, twist, climb, balance and reach over head Occasionally lift, carry, push or pull items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds Frequently use hands and fingers for fine manipulation; occasionally use light and firm grasp Frequently see objects up close to perform office tasks and far away to observe activity for safety hazards or problems Constantly use hearing to interact with guests and staff and recognize trouble outside of view Occasionally use sufficient physical strength, stamina and agility to perform emergency work in various capacities WORKING CONDITIONS Work is constantly performed indoors during the school year, and primarily performed outdoors from May - August. At times, there may be exposure to periods of high activity as well as exposure to outdoor weather conditions including summer sun and temperatures that could exceed 100 degrees. Indoor and outdoor work is performed in a high public use, multilevel recreation facility where loud noise and multiple events and activities at one time may cause a distraction. Exposure to periods of high activity and stress under demanding conditions. The position requires a great deal of communication with City employees, the public, and outside agencies. Required Materials and Equipment Preschool supplies and sports equipment kept at City recreation facilities.
