Position Summary: Get Paid to be Trained Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle TN, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Lifeguard will responsible for maintaining all aquatic safety procedures, while providing a safe and enjoyable aquatic experience.Essential Functions:Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and ResponsibilityEnsure safe and risk free environment at all times while meeting the individual needs of the participantsReport to work on time, in uniform and at position when shift beginsCheck area for hazardous conditions upon arrivalSafeguard lives of members and patronsMaintain Ellis & Associates lifeguard licenseComply with Ellis & Associates standards to maintain his/her license Enforce facility rules in courteous but firm mannerKeep swimming areas clean and ready for inspection at all timesSecure area by locking all doors and access points when a lifeguard is not on dutyBuild relationships and interact with membersAttend all required staff meetings/in-servicesQualifications:Passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCAAn enthusiastic personality with the desire to serve members, volunteers, guests, participants and staff to create a culture of service within our CentersStrong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the communityMust present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiativeMust be able to understand and follow all YMCA safety and O.S.H.A. guidelinesAbility to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekendsMinimum 16 years of age; no lifeguarding experience requiredDemonstrate Intermediate swimming ability Certifications Required:Before start of 1st shift: New Hire Orientation trainingBefore first shift: successfully complete Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training Program; obtain/maintain Ellis & Assoc. lifeguard licenseThe Ellis & Associates licensed lifeguard must comply with following standards to maintain his/her license:The Licensee must enforce and maintain the 10/20 second Protection Standard at all times while performing lifeguarding duties.The Licensee must maintain his/her International Lifeguard Training Program (ILTP) technical rescue skill competency at test ready levels at all times during the period of licensure.The Licensee must maintain his/her Emergency Care & Safety Institute (ECSI) Professional Rescuer CPR technical skill competency at test ready levels at all times during the period of licensure, including skills in adult, child, infant, and two rescuer CPR, AED and Oxygen administration.Test ready signifies the mental and physical skill competency required to pass course skills examination for the ILTP.Information Security and Sensitivity Conditions: This position requires elevated security permissions (administrative) to one or more systems which store or maintain sensitive and/or confidential information This position requires access to sensitive and confidential information All system activity performed by individuals working in this position is subject to periodic system audits This position may be subjected to privileged information such as organization changes, staffing changes, security events or other sensitive communications and is expected to protect and keep sensitive or confidential communications and/or information private Failure to comply with any security and/or sensitivity related duties as defined in this section will result in disciplinary action which may include terminationWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand; walk on uneven surfaces; sit; handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. The employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level is usually minimal to moderate.
